The film focused on the Cartwrights who were a fictional family of ranchers who lived close to Virginia City Nevada a real mining town in the mid 1800s. The character of the show was Cartwright's youngest son, his mom Marie (in the pilot episode, and later Felicia) was widowed and her daughter had died of fever.
